The Merck Manual, the standard text for diagnosing and treating disease, has stated that colon related diseases are on the rise. The incidence of Diverticulosis has increased dramatically over the last 50 years. In 1950, there were only 10% of adults over age 45
diagnosed with this disease. In 1972, that number had risen to 30% and by 1987 almost 80% of adults could be diagnosed with diverticulitis. The manual goes on to predict that in the near future, virtually every adult over age 40 will have herniations in the large intestines. |
