MAKING A HEALING SALVE, SOOTHING OINTMENT AND LIP BALMS
Infused oils are great for massages or in the bath but are a bit messy for use on specific areas of the body. To make them more solid, beeswax is added to make a healing salve or soothing ointment. The more beeswax that is added, the firmer the healing salve will be. A small to medium amount of beeswax will make a soothing ointment while a large amount of beeswax is more suitable for a lip balm.

Bug Bite Ointment
You can make your own bug bite ointment using the following ingredients. It feels nice and soothing when applied, though you need to reapply it fairly often to make sure it's effective:
Fill a spray bottle with the distilled witch hazel. Add one drop of citronella essential oil and one drop of the peppermint essential oil to each fluid ounce of the witch hazel. So if you are using 8 oz. of witch hazel, you would add 8 drops each of the essential oils. That's all there is to it! Now you've made a wonderful bug bit ointment that isn't dangerous to your skin! |
